TactiSMART 084: You Eat Rice, Long-Time, G.I.!

Civilian normies don't have to overcome either TBATE or TBAM in their urban-pamperized 24/7/365 lives. We in the military ignore TBATE to our detriment and must overcome BOTH. Survivalist/Preppers must think/organize/equip aka TTPE3 like they are in the military--but wrongly think they only have to overcome TBATE--even though living off-the-grid implies a HUGE societal collapse, evil-men-are-hunting-YOU, stupid TBAM problem.

I joined the USMCR when we heated canned c-rations with "heat tabs" that glued blue hot. I NEVER USED THEM. With a D.I. yelling at you you didn't have time struggling to open cans with a slow P38/John Wayne opener. I usually opened the big meal can and ate it in boot camp--the spaghetti in meat sauce was universally liked and I actually like ham 'n eggs. All the other cans were for later.

It was only in my reserve unit while attending college that I saw the heat tab in action--but wanted no part of its hassles. I don't drink coffee. I don't like hot food or drinks. Warm is fine enough for me. For a few years, heat tabs continued being supplied to us, but when I was in the ARMY it stopped with the water/hydrogen flameless ration heater for a MRE meal plastic pouch, which I tried and stopped using. So like the accessory pack's matches, salt, sugar, etc. I usually ration-stripped flame-less heaters before going into the field to K.I.S.S. and save weight:

After awhile, the chemicals-impregnated MREs became intolerable and I started bringing my own tune fish & crackers & mayo to the field.

So today, with AMCW2/SHTF/666/Doomsday threatening, we re-visit the COOKING FIRE issue.

Things have only gotten worse in war technologies; you can't even give off your own body heat if you want avoid detection/kill/capture--much less cooking/warming fires.

https://www.bitchute.com/video/TOBbpZrRL09T/

Water purifiers can even desalinate sea water so everyone should have one.

The problem is having enough FOOD stored.

In eating, you need a bulk staple like bread, noodles or rice with which to add meat and sauces to. Crackers are compacted bread. You cannot easily bake bread or crackers in a doomsday mess. Not on the run, for sure. That leaves noodles/rice which MUST BE BOILED.

www.combatreform.org/declutter.htm

In the USMIL's infinite penchant for failure, the otherwise superb steel canteen cup HAS NO LID to simmer rice; it can boil some noodles over an open heat source. The solution is a canteen cup lid:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/264456044209

BAD NEWS: the lid above does NOT nest into the steel ELK canteen cup below. Speculkation is the China lid resting on top but at an agle is still good enough to boil water/simmer rice. TBD. The China vented canteen cup lid nests into the G.I. aluminum or steel canteen cup--but not verified though.

To heat up the rice for a 1x-2x man BUDDY TEAM place the lid-topped canteen cup over a simple stove that heat tabs or small wood chips can make heating fire.

Obviously, this rice-making must be done when safe from enemy observation. I like sticky rice so keep some for later in a plastic lid-topped can of chicken/tuna.

YOU CAN BUY & STORE LOTS OF RICE AT A LOW COST.

The G.I. canteen cup, 1-quart plastic--collapsible ones are my invention:

...or aluminum or steel canteen and the stove--all RUSSIAN DOLL NEST together into a MultiCam OCPwhatever pouch that MOLLE II attaches to you (LBE) or your rucksack (preferred as its a LIVING "existence" load not a FIGHTING LOAD item).

Carry Cooking Kit on LBE? MAYBE...after the jump in....

Slip the cover lid in between the nested canteen assemblage and the carry pouch.

You can store rice by filling the canteen up with it since you drink H2O by Camel-Bak hydration bladder:

PLAN B

A wise James Bond Citizen (JBC) always has a Plan B.

Yes, desperation situation, you can boil a small amount of drinking water in your canteen cup.

You need a lot more to survive--1x gallon a day---or 4x 1-quart canteen's worth or almost an entire 100 ounce hydration bladder.

The best, most SHTF compact way to boil water is in a steel 1-quart canteen. Aluminum if that's all you got.

So a SERE capability was lost going to hard plastic 1-quart canteens that take up space and injure your lower back if you unwisely jump with them on. Lives were also saved by enemy bullets stopped by metal canteens in our many wars. E-tools and hard canteens can be arranged after a parachute jump insertion to act as body armoring.

www.combatreform.org/etools.htm

This capability can be regained by COTS steel canteens--albeit the cap isn't a NBC drink tube capable one. It came with a steel canteen cup with a sturdy folding handle I think is better than the loose, "butterfly" handle cups when cooking things in them over heat sources.

If you're not nesting with a canteen, the Stanley 2-Person Cooking set is more compact and cleverly has 2x cups and 2x sporks nested together.

Camouflage Your Mess Kit!

Detach the chain from the steel canteen's cap and slide gutted 550 Paracord over it. Camouflage stretch wrap and sticky tape cover both the stove & steel canteen--but NOT the latter's bottom or the former's top.

BEFORE

AFTER

The steel canteen cup handle is now camouflage wrap-covered--not seen in this earlier-than-thou pic.

I eBay ordered some tan desert camouflage pattern sticky tape to cover the top of the China lid, sloping steel canteen top and the stove--these shouldn't have camouflage wrap tape coverings due to possibly catching fire or simply not having adequate self-grip.

Klean Up!

The 2x outer pouchettes on the Multi-Cam MOLLE II Canteen Cover/Pouchwhatever can carry 2x small bottles of dish soap to clean your canteen & cup--such a HUGE PROBLEM in the field the Army gave up on mess kits in favor of wasteful throw-away-everything in Tofflerian Illuminati evil style.

The 3.5" high by 1.5" wide, TerraBreeze 2-ounce bottle is a perfect fit--but they want you to buy a CASE of them!

So unless you are supplying your platoon...

Getting 2x small bottles that fit and filling them with the dish wash soap of choice is the best COA but requiring more DIY TLC effort on your part.

If it doesn't move---PAINT IT!

Summary/Conclusion

RICE is the best survival food--go gets lots of it. Pour cans of soup, stew, Beefaroni etc. over it to flavor filling, satisfying meals. Rice can be carried pre-cooked or less preferred, uncooked when on-the-run away from HD; should be kept in your EDC "Bug-Out-Bag" (BoB) along with a jar of peanut butter/can of crackers. A water purifier & bottle/canteen with drink mixes to cook rice if you have to and hydrate.  Can you wear a canteen on your Fanny Pack in EDC and not draw unwanted attention?

Not likely.

A canteen cooking "system" as previously described could be hidden IN/on your BoB without drawing attention to it.
