Models are extremely important for our national defense--we would all be speaking French if the King of England not seen a beautiful and amazing warship model with metal plating which sold him on copper-plating the Royal Navy's actual warships to sail 10 mph faster than the French ships--defeating them in naval battle.

Fisher's letter was seen by the new Navy Board Controller Charles Middleton, who had the major problem at the time with supplying over 100 ships for the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), which was compounded that same year (1778) by French opportunism in declaring war on Britain to support the American rebels.
He had to expand the Navy but there was no time to add to the fleet, and limited resources available. It could take five years and 2000 trees to build a warship. However he could refurbish the existing fleet, he grasped Fisher's solution and on 21 January 1779 wrote to the Admiralty. He also petitioned King George III directly on this "matter of the gravest importance" for the necessary funding. He took with him a model of HMS Bellona showing a coppered bottom to illustrate the method. The King backed him for what was an expensive process for an untested technology.
Each ship on average required 15 tonnes of copper applied on average as 300 plates. All the copper was supplied by British mines (the only country in the world at that time that could do so), the largest mine being Parys Mountain in Anglesey, north Wales. The Parys mine had recently begun large-scale production and had glutted the British market with cheap copper; however, the 14 tons of metal required to copper a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line still cost £1,500,[12] compared to £262 for wood. The benefits of increased speed and time at sea were deemed to justify the costs involved. Middleton in May 1779 placed orders at the Portsmouth Docks for coppering all ships up to and including 32 guns when next they entered dry dock. In July, this order was expanded to include ships of 44 guns and fewer, in total 51 ships within a year. It was then decided that the entire fleet should be coppered, due to the difficulties in maintaining a mixed fleet of coppered and non-coppered ships. By 1781, 82 ships of the line had been coppered, along with fourteen 50-gun ships, 115 frigates, and 182 unrated vessels.
All this was too late to avert the loss of the American colonies, however; meanwhile the French were threatening the lucrative sugar trade in the Caribbean, reckoned at the time as being of more importance to British interests than the 13 colonies. The sugar trade was paying for the costs of the American Revolutionary War and the Anglo-French War (1778–1783). The Royal Navy's newly coppered ships, as yet untested, were used successfully by Rodney in defeating the French at the Battle of the Saintes off Dominica in 1782.

The irony is to tell Fleming's adventures, movie makers use models when they can't do the action for real--aka "practical effects". I call this "ModelVISION!" harking to Gerry Anderson's SUPERMARIONATION using mechanical puppets seen in the 007-inspired, "Thunderbirds". Derek Meddings did the models for both the Bond movies and the Thunderbirds--showing he can be both realistic as well as whimsical.
I hate CGI.
I truly hate the CGI Brosnan 007 ram-air parachuting from the rocket ski speeder in DaD and the entire Indiana Jones movie about the Crystal Skull. I can do a green screen movie; I want to see movies that look REAL because they were done REAL--and this means a scale model that actually does exist in physical, objective reality.
We also used ModelVISION! to explain how an agile, maneuverable remotely-piloted A3D SkyWarrior was painted to resemble an American Airlines 757 to con the sheeple by ramming or if cheapskates--shoot a missile or set-off pre-placed explosives in the Pentagon building on September 11, 2001.

I only caveat my CGI hate with all-CGI movies like those derived from video games--these are ALL CARTOONS and there is no live action/special effect suspension-of-disbelief disconnect with them. Despite the ubersexy Kate Beckinsale, consider the horrid movie "Pearl Harbor" with the horrid Ben Affleck and cartoonish CGIs the Japanese not-so-surprise attack making it look pretty which is a disgrace to all who died and were maimed there.

Good News/Bad News.
Walmart offers cakes in clear plastic display cases with circular cardboard bases making for great dioramas that keep the dust off. Model makers know that displaying models in the open inside your house results in dust collecting on them requiring regular cleaning and risks damaging them. You can buy rectangular clear display cases around $20 each--but who can afford them?
Eat cakes.
I love yellow cake with chocolate frosting cakes everyone seems to like and want to Betty Crocker bake--but only Walmart offers them ready-to-eat. The yellow choco cakes come in 007" diameter clear display cases and the larger cakes 11" in diameter.

The bad news is over time replica makers have wimped-out against possible child swallowing law suits and gotten cheap & greedy no longer offering human being figures in some of their model air/land/sea craft. To their credit, EAGLE MOSS (EM) sometimes offers figures in their vehicles permanently attached so they can't be removed and choked on, other times, not. Corgi and EAGLE MOSS sell Little Nellie (LN) autogyros from "You Only Live Twice" (YOLT)--but not the Sir Sean Connery (SC) figure inside--how can you make a diorama of LN in flight without a pilot?

For some strange reason, EAGLE MOSS makes a beautiful AMC Matador with Scaramanga Christopher Lee and Nick-Knack Villechave' figures inside--but no AEROnautical unit wings/jet engine!
GAS solves this with AERO units in 1:64 scale for HOT WHEEL-sized AMC Matadors and the 1:43 scale one by EAGLE MOSS. I suggest GAS makes a 1:64 scale AMC Matador since the HOT WHEEL one is rare and hard to find. Such a small set of wings would be difficult to paint the intricate wing design Derek Meddings did for the R/C flying movie model so a water-slide decal is a must. Really talented model painters could do it: I AM NOT THAT SKILLED! I am a good-enough model maker. LOL. IMHO, GAS should offer a 1:64 scale AMC Matador to go along with their AERO unit wings.
Good Enough Model-Building Secrets
CORGI AND EAGLE MOSS models come beautifully painted but if they lack figures you'll need to hand brush-paint GAS figurines and spray paint their vehicles to not leave brush strokes.
I am not an anal-to-detail model builder. Just good enough to show the idea--I don't need a knee clipboard on the pilot figure inside the aircraft!
Delay painting the entire vehicle for as long as possible until its assembled so you can oil spray paint it covering up as many seams as possible. YES, Tamiya paint is so good you can brush paint large models with it and not leave any strikes visible. Let dry.
Add water-slide decals.
VOILA!

Decide What You Are Going to Create
Once you clean-up the labels off the Walmart cake display cases, clean off the circular base and either paint them a base color or add terrain by smearing white glue all over and sprinkling railroad dirt/grass 'til its covered. Let dry. Shake off the loose dirt/grass and touch-up any missing areas. I have made such model bases using actual sand--how much more realistic can you get? Spray adhesive doesn't work because it doesn't dry hard like Elmer's aka white glue.
Now go to the internet/666www and google image search a base and/or backdrop picture. For the YOLT LN diorama I made a volcano out of a Styrofoam boob for the base, white glue/sprinkling dirt over it and then photo shopping a Japanese volcano picture.
Color print the base and/or backdrop at your nearest copy place if you lack a color printer for $1 each.
Place your vehicle/figures in the case loose (frustrating as they can move/fall-over), glue or Velcro in place. One base option is to glue a colored felt base acting as soft receiver Velcro to the cardboard and have hard Velcro under the vehicle/figures so you can re-position them as you see fit. TAN felt isn't as realistic as actual sand glued to the base--but it enables repositioning when making a presentation to narrow military minds; you can even grab the figure and walk it to the vehicle to illustrate mounting/dismounting. Baby steps to military reform...
POSSIBLE 007 Model Dioramas
If a 007 movie replica doesn't exist there are $300 wooden model which we include as possible diorama components albeit un-realistic. Why the wooden model makers can't offer under $100 models hearkens to the Thailand boy offering a wooden elephant to Louisiana sheriff from LALD and his wife--who later gets rudely rejected by Moore's 007 after helping him switch-on the gas for his boat to escape in TMWTGG.

However, they might lack a James Bond or villain figure inside which you'll need to somehow add ugggh. Or they don't offer what you want like an AERO unit to make Scaramanga's car fly or the HORSE TRAILER for their folded-wing BD-5J Acrojet with Roger Moore inside and the Land Rover tow vehicle with the breasty chick driver, Bianca. How hard is it to offer a horse trailer?
The much smaller Corgi Acrojet in 1:72ish offers all 3x components--trailer, Acrojet and tow vehicle--but no Bond and Bianca figures! Ugggh. Weird, huh? So I had to make my own horse trailer to complete my Octopussy Fighter-In-A-Box (FINAB) diorama.

Corgi made a children's flying car in around 1:72 scale that is generic and doesn't look anything like the Scaramanga AMC Matador AeroCar in the movie; I finally found one for sale on eBay for less than Dr. Evil's $1M dollars and made a mini-diorama of it using a purchase display box but I've never been satisfied with it.

Certainly the greatest 007 movie vying with the 2006 "Casino Royale" is the melodramatic, fantasy-adventure "Goldfinger" with non-stop iconic scenes. EM has the DB5 vs. Ford Mustang convertible duel well in a figure-less (go figure diorama) but Corgi's DB5 with actual working ejector seat ("You must be joking?"), bumpers, machine guns, bullet deflector is LEGENDARY and un-beatable.
We merged a CHICOM ejection and all the gadgets in play with SC flying in by jet pack into a diorama below under the "Thunderball" discussion!.
For Goldfinger specifically, the breasty Pussy Galore/Honor Blackman and Sean Connery in white tuxedo and pistol GAS figures are in the foreground of a realistic RODEN USAF Air Force 1 presidential JetStar with HOT WHEELS Lincoln limousine to match the movie as closely as possible in a diorama...

One Bond girl has finally admitted she could have fallen for Scotland’s 007… if it wasn’t for his wedding ring.
He may have been one of the biggest stars in the world but, at the height of his powers, Sean Connery liked nothing better than a night out with the crew of the latest Bond movie he was filming.
That’s according to Luciana Paluzzi, who starred opposite him as Bond girl Fiona Volpe in 1965’s Thunderball.
“He was at the peak during this film,” said Luciana, now 83. “At the time he was elated to be Bond. It was, after all, only the fourth movie of the series."
“He was, without a doubt, one of the most prepared, professional actors I have ever worked with. But at the same time Sean was easy and fun as well.
“After filming he liked to head out with the boys of the crew at night – I mean the boys in the crew, rather than the upper echelons. That was the type of man he was.”
Luciana was a 27-year-old actress who’d starred in Italian films when she was cast as SPECTRE assassin Volpe, and she recalls being shaken and stirred at the Edinburgh actor’s sheer presence on set.
“When Sean walked into the room for the first time I thought he was macho, fun, smart – and mischievous,” she laughed.
“When I think about what made him such an enduring presence on screen it was his acting talent, along with that unmistakable indomitable personality".
“I wasn’t attracted to him… but only because he was married! My mind doesn’t even start to consider a man if he is married, good-looking or not, I treat them like girlfriends. Now, had he not been married… then absolutely!”
Luciana now lives in Los Angeles, and paid tribute to her friend who she says will be looking forward to a relaxing birthday on Tuesday.
“Knowing Sean, he is happy and enjoying golf and reading, although I am not sure who is ever happy to turn 90,” she told The Sunday Post. “That is unless you consider the alternative, of course.”

Fleming's pal, RAF Commander and Sir William Stephenson BSC, sexspy Roald Dahl does a masterful job depicting the IRL war in space between Soviet Russia and the U.S. using Action Reaction Rocketry (ARR). Some may think this far-fetched--but we know now the Russians had a 23mm automatic cannon fitted into their military space station at the time to ward off any attackers.
Of course none of these writings would have come to life had it not been RAF fighter pilot, Ken Adam's genius ModelVISION! of large sets like the YOLT DUMB and the "Hero Car" in CCBB. Of course, even the Illuminati who hates Fleming/Bond were forced to award the Adam genius--eventually.

Rare but poor play set based on the Volcano scene from "You Only Live Twice". Very large vacuum formed mountain, on a pressed composite base. Quite sturdy with air brushed detail.
Interior is modeled after the film set with a light up map and command area. Various paths and driveways are cut for use with play vehicles. Included with the set is a small bag of poor Soldiers. No effort here in providing vehicles or interesting play items!
Main feature is the rocket firing mechanism. With one pull of the string, from outside the volcano, the roof slides back, the rocket fires. When it reaches a pre determined height it releases a satellite. WOW

The Fleming book and BBC radio play are too sad and upsetting to bear, so I avoid them. I turn the EON movie off before Tracy gets gunned down by the evil bitch with an AR-15 while being driven by Blofeld in a neck brace. 007 should have insured Blofeld was dead or arrested after falling off the bob sled--totally un-realistic. The actress playing the evil Irma Bunt died before OHMSS was shown to the public.
The Diana Rigg (DR) and George Lazenby (GL) 007 chase in a red Lincoln-Mercury Cougar gives one the iconic 1969 HOT WHEELS feeling. Most of the movie enrages you at all the fucking EVIL SPECTRE gets away with and the sheeple are oblivious and do nothing--kind of like today, yes? THE BEST SCENE that brings tears to your eyes is when Bond is running for his life surrounded by do-nothing townspeople, no politzei and Blofeld's thugs when...she appears before him on skates...TRACY SAVES HIM now after he had saved her twice before!
There is a lot more depth to OHMSS behind the haunting Christmas song; an entire chunk of the movie is missing when a Blofeld mole in the College of Arms is chased by 007 into the subway, where a FAKE SUBWAY ACCIDENT ala 9/11--to keep Blofeld/SPECTRE unaware.

I am an old fuddy-duddy I guess...but I don't like the door ripped off the Aston-Martin DBS so I don't want a model of it. EM offers I believe an intact but DC figure-less DBS.
Here is our QoS diorama work-in-progress. With the small scale cars needed to show the entire scene in a medium/long shot, the IMMEDIACY of larger scale cars with figures inside is lost. 2x 1:43 scale cars chasing is about the max diorama you can fit into a reasonably-sized table top...
YES, you can do ModelVISION! close-ups--but 1:64ish HOT WHEELS tend to have no figures inside...
The best I could do (so far) is EXACTO blade cut-out the QUANTUM thug's car sun roof and put a 1:72 scale Army guy with AR15 shooting at 007...

I say the Aston-Martin DBS Daniel Craig's 007 is driving is BLACK.

Moreover, this "charcoal grey" stuff is BS. IRL a cop would say the Aston-Martin is BLACK.
That the Carabinieri cop says "grey" is proof he was FOLLOWING THE SCRIPT--not the objective, physical reality of his eyes.
It gets worse.
When 007 pulls in to "Sienna, Italy" his Aston-Martin is indeed, GREY, GRAY, whatever.
Which means 2x DIFFERENT COLOR cars were used and 2x Aston-Martins have doors removed.
You might say the DUST covered the DBS so much so it LOOKED grey.
Ugggh.
Final diorama step will be cat-litter dusting everything.

I HATE SKYFALL aka AWFUL. Total pro-CIA BS that makes its rival MI6-SIS look bad. It's an anti-007 movie for nihilist, do-nothing, irresponsible normietards. Penance for not worshiping the CIA--notice funding problems after QoS rightly trashed the evil CIA which should be DISBANDED.

There are electric slot car racing sets with the Aston-Martin DB10 vs. Jaguar duel. Ditto this for die-cast Corgi DB10 in 1:36 scale and 1:64 scale HOT WHEELS to make static dioramas from. These can include SPECTRE Range Rovers in HOT WHEELS/MATCHBOX size.
