Every time I watch a 007 movie I notice new things...
Thunderball (TB)
The wisdom of carrying live nuclear gravity bombs in manned bombers on a training flight is/was questionable from a safety/security perspective and Fleming is warning against it starting in 1959. Having their actual fuses with them seems un-needlessly risky, too as if lost--or stolen--as the TB plot warns.

The 1965ish realization that manned bombers might not survive deep enough into thick Russian air defenses (think Powers' Dulles-CIA-sabotaged U-2 downing in 1960 to ruin the peace summit combatreform.org/airrecon.htm) to drop gravity nuclear bombs is vigorously depicted a year earlier in Illuminati elite member Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove--which 007 production designer was friends with and participated in. Bond's back-up team is incredibly WEAK; easily picked-off 1-at-a-time as sultry-sexy Paula was caught without a gun-in-hand, naively answering her hotel room door, drugged and taken to Largo's compound where she swallows a cyanide pill committing suicide--rather than talking just as Connery's 007 was about to rescue her. If one is in such a high-risk op to have L pills where is the personal defense gun on the body at all times?
Where-the-fuck was the black, middle-aged Pender in all of this?
Why wasn't Pender in a room adjacent to Paula or actually with her as a bodyguard?
Paula rescue preparation H scene has him holding a shot gun and informing 007 he has the power set to be cut for Bond to infiltrate Largo's compound...
What was he supposed to do while Bond was infilling?
What about Q?
He was capable of actually DOING SOMETHING kinetic as seen years later in "License to Kill" (LTK) his most 007 movie action to date.
Capable Leiter, we know was watching mega-gorgeous Domino as she lustily sipped on a cigarette watching the local Mardi Gras parade go by...
My point is a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) has to have MUSCLE--moral thugs of its own ready-to-pounce--and in the book; Fleming is aware of this as Leiter/Bond recon in a seaplane for the lost RAF nuke bomber they state the 82nd Airborne division was set to drop on the entire island to find the lost nukes as soon as they said so.
The Point of Convergence
I violently dislike the Home Secretary's snide remark that Bond's hunch was a dead end when by that point it was damn well obvious to CONVERGE ON LARGO AND HIS ENTIRE OPERATION, NOW:
The minute Leiter/Bond found the Vulcan bomber camouflaged hidden underwater after Connery's 007 cross-referenced Largo's shark fetish location as a tell to look down at the grato.
Or in fact, the second Bond's team photographed the Disco Volante's (Flying Saucer) underwater hatch
Or SPECTRE's abduction/murder of Paula...
ALL were clear signals to CONVERGE WITH EVERYTHING.
What more proof was needed?
Bond's WORD was/is more than good enough to act--not needing the photos--this isn't THE INVADERS where the establishment has to be 1st convinced of the existence/reality of the threat--they know the 2x nuclear bombs are damn well missing.
BUT OF COURSE,
...such realism ends the movie adventure abruptly at the half-way mark.
No MEGA-SEXY, fiery red-head, Lucianna Paluzzi breasty wild animal bed sex, haughty un-repentant dialogue, lusty cigarette light used to ignite her henchmen, Bond escape and sadly their final dance together...I wish instead Volpe was turned by Bond by being only injured by a gunshot at the KISS KISS Club and have her blow herself and Largo up in the hydrofoil at the end. A fiery end for a fiery femme fatale'.
No breasty Auger underwater sex...betrayal by Largo sadness, Love Beach wearing stylish sunglasses spear-gunning Vargas in the chest scene...
No underwater scuba battle...
Incidentally...see all the dive knives DROPPED because their owners didn't have them on a wrist retention lanyard? Just like Bond absurdly does with his PPK pistol?

Notice however, the buddy pic dynamism story Fleming wanted to depict expressing the truth that 1x in NONE--but 2x are 1. The later "rogue agent" solo-itis the recent Bond civilians with no real world experience is intolerable and un-Fleming-like.
Ending with a Bang?
The front hydrofoil part of the Volante hits a reef and explodes--with a nuclear bomb on-board dispersing radioactive material in all directions demanding Bond/Domino be nude decontaminated like in DR. NO--but alas movie ending credits time!
LIEdeas Infested in the Extra DVD Documentary...
The thing that infuriates me mostest is this LIE--I corrected documentarian John Cork on this--that Fleming was some sort of civilian "wannabe" loser writing fantasy Bond novels as therapy for his impending marriage in 1952.
TOTAL LIE BULLSHIT.
Commander Fleming was in the RNVR until 1951; starting from 1945 working (again) full-time under journalistic cover for MI6-SIS; James Bond was his public relations aka propaganda assignment for the latter's Information Research Division (IRD) as revealed by former Member of Parliament, Rupert Allason/Nigel West.
Everything Fleming wrote was based in real-world TRUTHS--as he flatly said.
