FWIW, I don't think the nite light attachment is too long to be attached all-the-time. Position its sheath so its behind your arm/shoulder at your backsides. 

However, if you do think the additional length of lite is too long and are looking for a BAD FAITH excuse to instead beat people with ASP night sticks, you have no excuse:

CARRY THE NITE LIGHT IN A BELT POUCH until needed during night time.
