TactiSMART023: Vikings Know Best: Towing a Cart so Their Backs are Not Encumbered by a Rucksack (Smart)

Carts Have Needlessly Gotten a Bad Rep

We highly recommend watching Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" to get a sense of ancient warfare and Rome-America parallels then watch "Patton". Unfortunately, Scott's Gladiator doesn't show that each Roman infantry squad had 2x supply carts steered by 2x helpers--or that their linked-shield wall in battle was the firing platform for multiple hand-thrown missile barrages landing on the enemy BEFORE closing-in for shield & sword CQB. Scott does show higher unit missile barrage artillery prepping the infantry with arrows and balls--some flaming.

Patton's words sometimes contradict and unfortunately they have damned us to have a negative belief about some good things: fortifications for defense which saved the Finns in 1949--so Patton should have been aware of them--and CARTS.

In the masterpiece 1970 movie, Patton, he damns carts as a sign the German Army was defeated having to use them to transport supplies/wounded men--yet in the brilliant ALL GLORY IS FLEETING warning-ending, praises carts as means to convey goods captured during Roman wars. Yet earlier in the film in Sicily, Patton revolver shoots dead 2x mules towing carts who refused to budge on a bridge exposing his men to enemy air attacks. If that were not enough--before his ending speech, General Bradley saves him from being killed by a runaway oxcart!

The message here is that human beings cannot successfully wage wars carrying everything on their backs. The tracked, armored tank is just a self-propelled wagon ehhh CART. American settlers conquered the west in covered wagons aka carts. War wagons aka siege engines aka armored carts existed in the 1400s used successfully in combat by Protestant military genius Zizka. Would Patton have known of this pre-internet from trips to libraries? Maybe--maybe not. Who were the idiots who created the OPEN-TOP half-tracked vehicle? Same military history question applies to them. No common sense cause/effect from WW1?

Warrior-Drawn Carts

We usually appeal to WW2 U.S. Army (Darby's Rangers), British Paratroops and German Airborne cart-use as proof of their undeniable Home Defense and Combat utility to be exploited in a future All-terrain, All-purpose Cart/Sled (ATACS).

How about the tacti-cool example of the Vikings hundreds of years before WW2 conserving their muscle-powered fighting strength with carts?

https://bavipower.com/blogs/bavipower-viking-blog/the-oseberg-cart-what-was-the-purpose

Like the Oseberg ship, the Oseberg cart had many subtle decorations on it. It depicts animals, symbols, humans, and especially cats. One common interpretation of this is that it attempted to depict Frey's cats that pulled Freya's wagon and other parts of the ceremony.

ATACS can be towed by bikes, ATVs and be self-propelled with electric hub motors making them eATACS.

What does the hunting community use to practi-cool cart-transport deer?

The 4-wheel cart seems to have the most positive capabilities and experience and needs tweaking with solid foam inner tubes and tied-down strap attachment points.

2-Wheel Viking Solutions Cart

In our earlier discussion on LIGHTning Infantry, we explained that in WAR, the Quick-Detachable, cart/trailer should have a motorized prime mover that is itself tracked & armored aka a tank. For Home Defense (HD) you might have to transport dead zombie bodies to a burn pit to get rid of them if NON-LETHAL ammo doesn't make them leave you alone.

Without absurd LINNIE FGDS mentalities, James Bond Citizens (JBCs) are uber adaptable and can tow their carts by motorized prime movers like a 4x4 quad bike, a pedal and/or eBike or their Joe 6-pack, redneck pick-up truck. Islamostupid rebels around the world are being incinerated in their vulnerable gasoline Toyotas with automatic cannon, heavy machine guns and Multiple Rocket Launchers (MRLs) in back. Choose your prime mover poison carefully when you can't do it right with a light tracked, armored tank.

At least hunters realize they must keep weight off their backs and move their deer food by carts. Let's do a market survey of the deer carts that are COTS available. Their low cost begs the question of why the USMIL isn't using carts, too? The Patton cart insult?

The cart below's tires need to be WIDER for better cross-country mobility.

The Tilt-N-Go is the new hitch-mounted tiltable hauler that transforms into a super-efficient wheeled-transporter of heavy objects! If you have your deer ready to load, the Tilt-N-Go will tilt over to either side so that pulling your deer onto the carrier is easy. When you can’t get your truck or ATV close to the deer, the wheel kit is easy to attach and makes loading an animal fast and easy. The 13.5” tires are big enough to navigate through tough terrain and durable for multiple season use.  No more loading deer carts into your vehicle – why not use the storage space on your hitch and then have your cart available as needed? This unique product combines the functionality of several products into one affordable unit!

Viking Solutions designed it for hauling game, but people are finding multiple uses for the product – hauling seed or fertilizer for home or farm – hauling coolers from the dock – bringing home gardening supplies to your house and then using the wheels to carry around the yard – there is no limit to the uses!

Product Overview

The Crawler Deer Cart brings an amazing level of strength, stability and versatility. Patent Pending Dual Rotating Axles allow cart to crawl over top of objects in its way. Four all-terrain tires and oversized tubing result in ultimate balance and weight management. The tires do all of the moving with uneven terrain which keeps the weight in the center of the cart stabilized, prevents shifting and ‘tipping’ and ultimately results in a smooth pull. Textilene DuraMesh sling adds versatility for hauling bait, firewood and other heavy loads. Handle and cart conveniently fold for easy storage and transportation.

Pneumatic. I believe they have the anti-flat goo inside of them as well

great cart - heavy duty

I picked this cart up on sale last fall, and it is definitely much better quality than the other 2-wheel (bycycle wheel type) carts I have used before. At 50+ lbs it's a heavy cart, and it doesn't really fold down much, so be ready for that aspect. But as far as doing it's job, my hunting buddy and I were both very impressed with how easy it was to maneuver through the woods with a load on it. It was pretty easy to assemble, and i had to air up the tires before first use, but they seem to have held air pretty well after that first time. I really like this cart and would definitely recommend it.

Work great carried out a bear and elk in about 6 inches of snow not enough for a sled but carrier worked good Tires were big enough to handle that much snow but not much more Worked better than others I've used Kind of heavy wish it was made of aircraft aluminum instead of steel but it is built well

I have had a few carts but this one is by far the best. I use it to haul all kinds of stuff. I have had 250# in it a few times, no problems at all. The build quality seems to very good also. It's quiet and very stable. It's folded up in the bed of my truck right now. Awesome product This cart works very well.

Best investment this hunting season!

I bought this cart after searching deer carts and seeing the video of the Hawk Crawler... I was very excited when I found it on sale on your site. So far this season we (my hunting buddies and I) have hauled 6 deer including two hauls of big bucks over 2+ miles and one haul of two deer over a mile and a half. To say this cart made our recoveries much easier than it would have been with a traditional cart would be an understatement. Rolling over rough uneven terrain, rocks, and logs (I even rolled over a 12" downed tree) without spilling any cargo. If I had any recommendations to make this cart even better than it already is they would be: 1. Add some kind of mechanism to keep the handle up and the cart level when you stop... I used a forked stick as a "kick-stand" to hold the handle up so my cargo wouldn't slide forward when I let the handle down. 2. Some sort of anchor points for bungy cords or tie-town straps. We just hooked bungies or straps to or around the main frame but some anchor points would have made it easier. All in all this is the best cart I've ever used and have already recommended it to several people.

I have hauled two deer on the deer hearse. Rocky, hilly terrain. The four soft tires and the way they're mounted makes it a breeze. They way is stands up when empty makes for easy loading.

I have chronic lower back and neck pain and needed a cart to help me get my blind and other gear into the woods. This cart is awesome and highly Mobile. I think it could use longer cotter pins to allow for easier locking down of the folding arms but that is the only flaw I see. Highly recommend this cart.

I used this to set up my Feeder this year. It fit inside my SCION XB. I put the feeder still in the box. 50 lbs bag of corn, a machete, a lever actin rifle, 3 - 36 in rods for anchors, on this cart and pulled that through the woods including one dry creek bed. With no problem. Made another trip to get the other 3 50 lbs sacks of corn. This cart really is a very useful and capable tool. Well designed and truly impressive in its ability to traverse rough ground and limbs smaller in diameter than the tires. I really like this cart

I took this buggy over a mile in rough terrain to my hunting buddy's stand to retrieve a deer. We actually made it up the mountain over downed trees and rocks and the product worked as advertised with the independent axles and self-leveling abilities.

I own two other deer carts which are ok but load would never balance. This cart is great, have used it to carry 100 lbs of corn ; hope I will soon be using it to carry deer! It doesn't make tight turns but that's ok, it rolls over logs and rocks with ease.

Assembly was easy. Have not yet hauled any deer out of the woods with it yet but a trial run through the woods over logs and brush went well. I think it could use some tie down straps - I bought some to use just in case.

I bought one of these the first year they came out with it. The wheels are independent from one side to the other and allows the cart to roll over about anything by letting the two wheels on either side to roll 360° independently. I have wheeled 2 deer out at one time. I highly recommend to add a couple of ratchet straps and put some slime in the tire tubes. It roles like a dream.

Best thing since  sliced cheese. My Grandson and me hauling a deer and gear 1.5 miles back to the truck

I hunt in a public wildlife mgmnt area and walk appx 3 to 5 miles in some very rough terrain where no motorized vehicles are allowed. We prep prior to the season and set up stands and these carts are used to haul in everything we need for several weekends. The previous two seasons we broke two so called heavy duty carts from two other brands as the couldn't stand up to the load or rough terrain. One broke while carrying a nice deer. We used the crawler during the 2018 season over several weekends and put over 25 miles on it without any problems. If definitely makes hauling any load much easier. The wheels work great and help balance the load going over very rough terrain. I can't say enough about how much easier this cart works compared to the other two brands we had previously tried. Due to the design you cannot make a sharp turn while hauling a load, but it is a small price to the benefit of easily hauling a load. If you need a cart, this is the one to get. Just strap on you load and go!

Product looks and feels great while in use. I hauled 2 stands and ladder sticks over a mile into dry/sticky marsh. First trip went great, 2nd trip with only 1 stand and ladder sticks the tire went flat and has a hole in it. I don't think I go into any thickets that other hunters don't but I thought the tires would last a little longer. But, Midway did give me Hawks CSR# so I can reach out to them and see what to do about the tire.

My buddy and I used this cart to haul 2 ladder stands back in 1.73 miles from the truck. We left both stands in the boxes they came in. Strapped them to the cart and took off. With the stands and tools we took we had about 150lbs. We were pretty amazed with how easy the cart pulled along. Going up hill still sucked but on fairly flat ground it was pulled right along without any problem. We stayed on a old road most of the time but I think the cart would do just fine going through the woods too. The only thing is the air filled tires. I wish they were solid rubber. Other than that great cart! Ready to lay a big buck on it now.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

It's a very nice cart, folds up nicely and capable of holding a good amount of weight. I just wish the tires were a little higher, it struggles a little in high grass.

This is a great cart and extremely easy to use! However the quality control was not good at all. All of the bolts that hold the material to the frame were loose and some had even fallen off and were rattling around in the bottom of the box! Perhaps the biggest disappointment was that one of the never flat tires was in fact flat! Despite all of the cons the pros definitely outweigh the cons and I would definitely purchase again!
